I've been thinking about this myself a lot recently and have a similar article in progress. I constantly look for alternatives to yet another electron app wherever possible.

One aspect maybe you missed, at least directly, as that software has become more business first rather than user first. It's cheaper for businesses to make cross platform applications and these days the tools are "good enough", so why bother taking the extra step?

When you find the companies that do bother, embrace them and support their work!
